Ruminate Deeply

The theme of ruminating comes from ruminants such as cows, sheep, goats, and deer.
As you probably know, they take time to get comfortable, lie down, and “chew the cud.,” passing their food through four different compartments in their stomach. Ruminating is also used in the Bible as a spiritual exercise: the Hebrew word , “hagah,” is translated “to meditate,” but also has the connotation of “chewing the cud” or “ruminating” (e.g Psalm 1:2)
There is so much material available today that is looked at once and then simply discarded. I have tried to create books and songs with such depth that people will say, “I want to read that again . . . let me take a look at that picture one more time . . . I think I could play that song if I sit with it for a little while.”
Audience of All Ages

Living in a multi-generational home, I am sensitive to having songs and books accessible to all ages. My books/songs could be classified for “children,” but the concepts, musicality, and pictures are such that an adult can be equally edified. I pray my books will be as Christians have described the Gospel of John, “Shallow enough for a child to wade in and yet deep enough for an elephant to swim in.”

Creation Care
I am deeply committed to living out the Biblical mandate “to work/serve and keep/preserve” the earth (Gen. 2:15). This is tough to do, but I am taking a few conscious steps to honor the Lord’s good creation.
Creation Care Steps:
Creation Care Steps
- Sourcing Paper Carefully
I am using paper that is FSC certified. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) mission is to “promote environmentally sound , socially beneficial and economically prosperous management of the world’s forests.” This mission cares not only for the forests and creatures but also treats workers and indigenous peoples fairly. You can learn more at fsc.org.
- Printing and Shipping Locally
Nearly 80% of greenhouse gases come from CO2. In order to significantly limit my carbon footprint, I am using a local printer for all my books, and I am only shipping within a 50 mile radius of my house. This strategy allows us to care for the earth while also investing our time and attention in our local community.
- Packaging Responsibly
We also get to choose our own packaging, which is fully recycled paper envelopes instead of plastic.
